Hi Ray, I purchased one of these the last time round, and I only just opened the box today to find the unit has scratch marks in it, looks like it is a refurbished unit. I actually havent set it up yet so unsure if it works. Just want to let you know I am very disappointed....

I bought one last time. The PVR/media player part of it worked for one day. Now it is just a set top box.

These units can be a little picky with the hard drive you use, with some powered hard drive you have to power on the hard drive the same time as the set top and then go into the usb section in the menu and wait for it to find the drive... thats mainly with the more fancy hard drives like WD external. i was lucky and had a Laser external enclosure, formated a hard drive to FAT32 and it works perfect. i use it every day, wit no problems as soon as i used a more basic external enclosure.. it has to be FAT32 but, it won't read NTFS, it with just crash. and to make it easy for the set top box to first set itself up to recored put a folder called PVR just so it doesn't have to make that first. They are a great unit i think. dick smith has a pvr sort of like it, but a no name brand for $99 I think this one would be better

This thing works good with a usb drive, i found that if you make the PVR folder yourself on the drive with you pc the it works first go as soon as you plug it in to the usb port, if you don't make the folder you have to wait for the unit to find the drive then make it's own PVR folder it records in.. this unit is well worth the money, it records the transport stream so it is the original mpeg2 video in the Transport stream container, what it records is exactly the same as you watch there is no different, when you want to put it onto the pc then a dvd you just use mpeg streamclip to remove it from it's PVR transport stream to it's basic mpeg2 video, take no process speed to do, it's pretty fast, you can cut the ads out with mpeg streamclip or any program like it like HDTVtoMPEG2, HDTVtoMPEG2 doesn't read pvr well but, best removing it with mpeg streamclip, then cuting out the ads with HDTVtoMPEG2, easier to use it is Sorry about the typo's if any

I just got mine delivered today, it doesn't work straight out of the box. It just sits there with "boot" on the screen. I called Laser, thinking it might be a known issue with an easy fix, but they will have to "call me back..." Tried calling 9748-0600, NO answer... Not happy, Jan... Mike

tracy, you probably need to format your hard drive as FAT32, or ExFAT. Go for ExFAT if you can (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955704). then it should be able to recognise your drive.
