I don't get why the remote has 4 on/off buttons but there are only 3 units (all the different brands are the same). BTW, you can have more than one unit set per button.

yeah wfdonald, i have that exact question myself, thought maybe the orginal design was a 4-way or something, or maybe the frequencies play a role here...

You only get three receivers but you can control four - so you have to purchase another one to control another unit.

but what about frequency? don't you think a 4th one would cause interference with one of the existing 3?
